When I send and receive mail using Outlook Express my modem disconnects as soon as the mail is received. I have tried to fix this via Tools, Options, where I selected the Connections tab and unchecked 'Hang up after sending/receiving', but it still disconnects after completing the tasks.
Two other settings can cause an internet connection to automatically hang up. Open Control Panel, double-click Internet Options and select the Connections tab. Select your ISP under Dial-Up settings and then click Settings. On the Settings dialog box click the Advanced button.
There are two checkboxes at the bottom of the Advanced Dial-Up dialog box that will cause the connection to hang up in certain circumstances. The 'Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed' option is probably the one that is causing the trouble.
